Pavel Steidl

Saturday March 14, 2009
St. Stephen's Anglican Church
8:00 pm

Pavel Steidl was born in Rakovnik (Czech Republic). Since winning first prize at the Radio France International Competition in Paris, he has become one of the most widely celebrated soloists of his generation. His highly expressive performances of rare 19th-century guitar literature on authentic instruments add a wonderful dimension to his already exceptional performances. Mr. Steidl also composes, and his compositions are often performed on his concerts.

Pavel Steidl has performed in more then thirty countries including Canada, Cuba, Spain, Poland, Austria, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Australia, Japan, England, Scotland and many others. On demand of Italian Guitar Magazine Guitart, his name appeared among eight of the most important guitarists of 2003.

"...Steidl`s concert astonished me with his preeminent play. The whole audience rose to its feet. He plays with a vivid expression as if he composes the music/pieces." Gendai Guitar

"Steidl plays with a quasi-improvisational flexibility in all of the works here...He varies his tempos to an extraordinary degree, taking risks that most conservatory-trained players of modern instruments would be too cautious to try... There is not a single dull moment on the program ..." American Record Guide
